Open iTunes to buy and download apps.
You’ll probably never be bored again.
What's New in Version 4.0.2
New thing about 4.0.2: The number-one cause of crashes has been eradicated. Thanks for the feedback, everyone.
New things about 4.0: Oh, lots. Almost too many to list. But here goes:
◆ Create new blogs from inside the app
Ever get an idea for a blog while you’re out on the town, or up in an aeroplane? Make it, name it, give it an avatar, give it a header image, title it, describe it, post your first post to it—all before you even return to the Earth.
◆ Make video posts using a video’s URL
Copy a URL from YouTube or Vimeo or another such site, slap it into the app, and you got yourself a video post. This is apparently your most-requested feature for the mobile app. Smart. We love it. Here you go.
◆ Submit to blogs that accept submissions
Situation: You’re deep-sea diving with your waterproof phone, snapping pics of fish and treasure chests and the sea god Neptune. Stuff that’s perfect for that submission-based SCUBA blog you follow. Now you can submit a post to it right from the briny deep.
◆ A widget for your widget collection
Witness today’s trending tags without even opening the app. Install it thusly: 1. From anywhere in your phone, swipe down from the top of your screen to open up your “Today” view. This is where all your widgets live. 2. Flick your way to the bottom, then tap the “Edit” button. 3. Find “Trending on Tumblr” in the list. There ya go.
◆ Filter searches by post type
Just looking for photos? We’ll just show you photos. Just looking for chats? Sure. You can do that, too.
◆ A heap of other niceties
• New icon. Feels good under your finger.
• Sticky search bar. Convenient for those heavy search sessions.
• Sticky avatars on iPad. Always, always know who made the post you’re currently reading. Never forget.
• Clean, fresh look for the iPad.
• GIFs load in a much more pleasing fashion. You’ll see.
• You can delete blogs from the app, which sounds like something only a troublemaker would need to do, but okay.
Opinions and Suggestions
I love the app and have never had any small complaints. Tumblr mobile is pretty nice and decent. I've never made a review because I figured what I'd say would be ignored but I'm bored and if by any chance my opinions get taken into consideration, this'll be worth it. Anyways I do have a couple suggestions: 1.) a blacklist. I know there's an xkit app that you can buy but I feel like it should just come with the tumblr app. Cause let's face it: everyone you follow posts awful things once in awhile. Might as well be able to block what you don't wanna see. 2.) along with the blacklist, blocking posts singularly would be nice. 3.) similar to the search bar, I think there should be an option to not show nsfw posts on your dash. Which sounds like it should be a given since tumblr mobile is mainly for traveling or just being outside of the house. You don't want to be at your grandma's dinner table while visibly on the mobile app and have something pop up. (Especially if you have the iPhone 6. Even more so with 6plus.) And so these are my suggestions. They're just about hiding certain posts basically. I'm not sure if these are considered major or minor add-ins so I apologize if they are too much work. Thanks in advance! And thanks for the good-working app.
It's great, but it could be better .
I enjoy using the Tumblr mobile app. Most of the time I blog, it's through mobile. I like the fact that tumblr has been working on updates lately. I commend you guys. The only reason I say it could be better as of today, May 3, 2015, is because of the tiny glitches. Since the last update, reblogging for some reason doubles the comments. It's really awry lol. That's my only problem with this update. Also, I wish it were more like tumblr on the desktop. Although I feel the experiences, using it via desktop versus mobile, should be different I wish there were more advancements on mobile. Using desktop, I'm able to bold/italicize/strikethrough etc, but I can't do it on mobile. I've tried using the special keys such as "<i></i>" for italics but it doesn't work for some reason. I see and love how innovative tumblr has been working with both the desktop and mobile app, I just wish the creators the best of luck when making greater advancements on the mobile app.
Alright but glitchy
I'm not here to complain about something as trivial as an icon change but I do want to know what this update supposedly fixed because now I have a glitch in where I check my following and the blog listing duplicates. Like the same blog is listed twice, which I could generally ignore if it was just something that could be refreshed away. It doesn't go away though, and it happens for multiple blogs in the listing, and it's frankly annoying to look at let alone terribly misleading. I almost unfollowed people on accident because of this error. And of course there's still the very persistent glitch of blogs disappearing from the search for no reason when you click them to view the blog further. But if you click back to look at your search that blog you viewed is completely gone and it makes no sense. I could understand if there was some sort of ignore feature but that isn't the case. This is just lazy coding somewhere on somebody's past. Please fix these errors ASAP.
