Editors’ Notes

Walmart’s app lets you browse thousands of products, search for items that have recently gone on sale, and even refill your prescriptions. But the savings catcher is pure genius: scan a receipt for any purchase made in the last seven days, and if a competitor in your area is advertising a lower price, Walmart automatically gives you the difference. It’s a fantastic, hassle-free way to save money without the need to shop around.

Needs a lot of work

I use this app mainly for the Savings Catcher. It is very unreliable. I have receipts that have never processed, sometimes for weeks, some for months. Almost impossible to get any response to emails or help requests. In addition, I ordered online for delivery to store, didn’t receive item for weeks after promised delivery. I never picked it up because it was past the date I needed the item. Second time I tried ordering another item, I had to talk to 4 different people at the store, to get anyone to get my item and waited about 30 minutes. Pretty much defeated the purpose since it’s supposed to be about convenience. I won’t use that process ever again, even if they have the lower price, just not worth their hassle. I now doubt that their Savings Catcher really compares prices based on how unreliable the program is in even processing receipts. The last problem is the stores that are always out of various common items or just not stocked, and “fresh” fruits and vegetables that rot almost immediately upon purchase, not to mention filthy stores inside and out. If Walmart wants to compete with other retailers online or even store level, they need to step up their game because their products (anything online, etc) need much help. And, they might think about getting a real set up for helping customers with online issues, like answering emails. I have already begun shopping Target whenever possible.

Pure Genius???

Update: My last review was given July 19th. Today is December 20th. Customer Service said they were fixing the Saving Catcher issue that caused submitted receipts not to appear. The problem STILL persist. Frustrating.

The Editor's Note calls the Savings Catcher "pure genius" . . . That's a load of BS. First, the Savings Catcher takes longer than 48 hours to process most times. If the comparable sale is short lived, the SC will probably not "catch" it, and you'll get no savings. Second, if and when the SC catches a savings, it catches the least amount: if there are two other stores running comparable sales, one 30¢ less than Walmart and the other 50¢ less, the SC will use the 30¢. Third, submitted receipts don't always show up through the app, even after you get back savings. For those of us who need the receipts, especially since Grocery Pickup doesn't give physical or ereceipts, for taxes, this is a huge problem. I've contacted customer service, who said the issue would be forwarded to Corporate, but after at least 3 released app updates, nothing has changed. I've resorted to shopping at Target for much of my groceries. Instacart is nice, too, for times when I don't have time to in-store shop. The next step is to go to social media to complain. Walmart should not market ANYTHING it does not take seriously or operate as claimed-- it could lead to a class action lawsuit.
