Customer Reviews

Good program, good features, some drawbacks

Overall a great idea and fairly good execution. Accomplishes most of what you want/need and is very helpful in most cases.
A couple thoughts...
To get the full value of this feature-rich app, meaning all the minute-by-minute interaction, updating roads, reporting issues, etc. requires a passenger sitting next to you. I'd hate to get a ticket for interacting with my phone while driving because I'm trying to report something, thumbs-up a report, or determine what type of road blockage is ahead.
Also, if your phone chokes for a second or is doing anything else in the background (like playing music), the delay really seems to mess up Waze' ability to tell you where to turn in a timely fashion. It is definitely a little step behind the more dedicated mapping/gps programs, at least on my older phone. I have had to backtrack several times recently due to not being in the correct lane to make a turn that I was notified of just a little too late.
The other thing I notice is that the interface is too complicated to use effectively while driving. I often swipe the messages onto the screen by accident, or hit one of the buttons that screws up the look of the screen. You really have to have a helper to do anything more than set a destination and start driving. So, much of the value seems to be wasted for the simple task of getting from point A to point B.

Great app

I discovered Waze during a time where I was commuting 120 miles a day from San Diego to Orange County for work. Since then, I've been hooked! I love the special voices that are offered occasionally (although it would be great if there were multiple phrases recorded for hazards, police, etc instead of hearing the same thing over and over). A couple things that would make this a 5 star app in my opinion are the following: alert me when police are behind me as well as in front of me! I'm much more concerned about a cop behind me that likely will catch up with me - than one traveling ahead of me that I will likely never encounter. Also - for the police alert - make an option to inidicate if the officer is on the side of the road (traffic stop or speed trap) or if they are driving.
The other thing is - use street names! I know there are a few voice options that use street names - but it makes no sense that the majority of them don't use street names. The last thing is to make it easier to move the app to another device! I know it should be easy but the last time I got a new phone - the app couldn't seem to figure out how to sign in and I lost all my previous points and such...I know - minor! But if you're going to offer points - then help my points go with me!
Otherwise - this is by far my most used app - saved me lots of time/stress!
Other than that a

I drive around as a cat with a crown and life is good.

Although I've never written a review (I never do this) I joined almost 3 years ago and use Waze every single day, even if I'm just going up the street. It works amazingly for route options going to work in the morning as sometimes the highway has major traffic due to an accident, etc. It's definitely saved me countless times. Aside from navigation, it's great just to know what's coming up ahead in general; construction, cars at the side of the road, objects on the road, everything. Also, I've noticed some people complaining in other reviews because the app tracks your location at all times versus only when using the app; the fact that you can plan future drives should negate this constant tracking as a bad thing. You can set Waze to alert you when you should leave for a planned drive due to traffic and whatnot. I've only recently started doing this, but it's pretty useful. Normally I just open the app when I wake up and keep checking the arrival time as I get ready for work, but this feature just lets you know, no constant checking necessary! I realize this is a pretty long review so I guess when I actually write a review I make it count. Just get Waze, guys. It's worth it.
