Probably asking too much but...

For the most part I LOVE it and it does well for me. But I wish I could have a setting for alerts for just Police. In DC metro area, hearing there's an hazard of a broken down car on side of road every 5 seconds isn't helpful. They are everywhere and mostly safely off to the side. I don't always want to silent all alerts, but hearing there's police around for any reason is always helpful. The other thing is being able to report being able to report *very sudden slowdowns* in "at speed" traffic (as in squealing tires, not sitting at a long red light). I can be incredibly alert, but in this area things happen so fast that suddenly traffic going 70 mph has come to a sudden halt for a new wreck or unidentifiable reason, and no one in 5 lanes of traffic can avoid slamming on their breaks. I'm not talking about one inattentive driver. Drivers coming up on the traffic pileup can't tell that, given the layout of highways around here. Drivers already stopped, see/hear vehicles flying up behind them, completely unaware, bracing for impact. To report "heavy" traffic isn't accurate and "standstill" isn't either, as it may suddenly start moving slowly again. But once stopped or crawling safely, we should be able to report it, so people have a heads-up. It's no different than hitting dense fog out of nowhere, and potentially even more dangerous during one of worst rush hour commutes in country.

It's the best app but still room for potential...

Let me first say that I have had a lot of success with this app and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. But if I am driving and input a pothole, police, construction or anything for that matter... I WISH Waze would drop the notification in Waze right where I initially pressed the button in the app (on the road). Many times I press the button for the construction (for example) and by the time I safely get it entered in, Waze drops the construction notification waaay down the road. Dumb! It should backtrack to where my GPS was when I pressed the button initially! And I wish I could turn off notifications for certain things like cars on side of the road. AND... how does Waze determine when a notification is not good anymore? For example when a police officer has moved his car how does Waze know that it is not there anymore? I have pressed the thumbs down. Is that the correct way to address that? I'm unsure. It's confusing to me. Anyway, other than those items, Waze has helped me around many wrecks! Lately though, directions given have been quite odd. Waze has given me a longer route to certain places and no accidents or traffic has prevented me from taking the other shorter route. So I don't know why.

A couple big faults

Waze gets you from point A to point B just fine, but there are a couple of super annoying things that is making me go back to Google Maps. The first issue is with the voice. I can excuse little stumbles like turning "I-35" into "I-I-35", but the change in volume level has me scratching my head. Some of what the voice says is soft, while others are loud. It's kind of like this, "In 500 feet TURN LEFT ON Main Street". And is it just me, or does she say "snay" instead of "stay"? By far the most annoying thing is that Waze uses your location even when you're not using the app. There is no excuse for not making this optional. I am one who will never, ever want an app to prompt me when to leave for an appointment. Ever. I want Waze to access my location only when I use the app. Don't let anyone fool you - Waze is using your everyday location information to sell to businesses. "Hey Walmart...this guy drives by your store 12 times a week. Want to buy his information?" Fix the voice issues, give us the option to access our location only when using the app and I'll return. Until then, its back to Google Maps.
