What's New in Version 4.1.3
- Bug Fixes
The app needs work. It is not fully integrated with the apple software yet (i.e. If I take a picture it has to first be saved to my phone or tablet before I can transfer it to my cloud). The app is also sometimes glitchy (had difficulty opening large files on my tablet which should be an issue because I have an iPad Air 2 with 128Gb of storage) especially if you don't have a strong LTE connection. When I stream my music from my cloud when away from my home it is not always smooth on the cell phone data network. Haven't seemed to have those issues when I connect to other locations free wireless connections. In the options in the apple software I don't have the option to make my cloud my primary storage location instead of the iCloud. Also I have had difficulty connecting all my MP3 stored music on my cloud to my iTunes. I want to be able to store onto the cloud and then see it on my phone. It's something I am still trying to figure out. We've had the my cloud for about 2 months now. I will update at the end of the year when I've had more time to interact with it.
The unit costs too much for a lackluster app
Product is great but, The app does not support most file formats. Pretty sure all it understands is .mp3 and .mp4.. It connects with my iPhone just fine. My Sony laptop took a few days of somewhat freezing the network window whenever I connected to the passport's wifi signal, then finally decided to connect one day for no apparent reason, and then works flawlessly now. I don't know what the issue was there.. And I am still unable to connect it to my iPad. Keeps telling me I need to connect to the passport and then go back to the app... Well been there and done that many times. Deleted the app and am redownloading it hoping that fixes my problem. I would suggest when selling a product like this to insure it's working order and app reliability across the board of products before you release it.
Yea... Following up, I can not connect the device to my iPad mini 3 but it connects just fine to my iPhone 5s... I'm very annoyed and frustrated and should be compensated for my time wasted.. And compensated for a product that does not do what it advertises.
1. Frequently get "Unable to connect the network" errors in app and WD support was unable to assist.
2. App is outdated and not optimized for iPhone 6 or 6+
3. When you can connect, it will not stream AIFF files "with" album artwork. This stinks!!! I don't want to convert all of my CD quality uncompressed music to another format that supports album art.
4. App does not play songs back to back without pause between. This causes problems when playing in a car connected via USB. After each song plays, during the pause, the app automatically gets overrun by the iPod music app causing the car audio player to stop playing the WD app music. This is a huge issue for me and anyone looking to connect their iPhone to their car stereo system through a USB port and stream music from the WD app. It won't play more than one song and then you have to manually switch back to the app and press play in the second song, ect...
These are all reasons why I actually returned the WD MyCloud 6TB drive. Very disappointed in this. If it weren't the faults of this app, I would have kept the Drive and enjoyed my CD quality music everywhere I go.
Hopefully, someone at WD will see this and make some improvements. Maybe I'd revisit a purchase if isWe the app can handle all of these issues in a future app update release notes.
