Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls is completely free to download, and players initially have the ability to level their characters up to level five and explore the entire first floor of the “Dungeon of Trials.” The rest of this massive, dungeon-crawling adventure can then be unlocked via in-app purchase for $9.99.

- Fixed an issue that prevented users from reinstalling the full version when a bad network connection caused the download to fail.
- Fixed an issue that caused the game to freeze in the Dungeon of Trials when using certain items.
Real gamers only
This game is great. I have a basic 3GS, i keep 1GB free, and i run the newest ios. The only time i have any issue at all is if i have alot of apps still open, close them completly and it works great.
This is a real dungeon crawling rpg. In the old days these games were designed to take all your patence and skill and brain power, things most new games are afraid of doing.
If you liked the old wizardry games and games like them this will be a treat. After a little time u'll get the controls down. The unpurcasable items are most likely still being developed, and what u can buy is all u really need. And misspelled words and other small mistakes have always been in wizardry, put there on purpous (lol) as fun little jokes.
So dont listen to 95% of the reviews, and rock on old school gamers!
P.S. Can anyone imagine what the reviews would be like if they would've used the old latin sounding spell names and didn't give a way to translate them.
Needs an iPad edition with improved graphics for the 'new' iPad
So, I played this on my 3GS. To get it to start you need to close pretty much all your apps and sometimes it will let you into the game or not. I find I have more success loading it when it is the only app running on my phone.
That said, if you played wizardry from the 80's-90's this is a great game. It has all of the traditional play and more. That includes turning to ash and even being unrecoverable if you get the unlucky dice roll (or random number generation these days). It is hard to control IMO until I switch to the 'stick' method of control so I knew when I moved forward, sideways or whatever appropriately.
It also helps that if you have played Wizardry in the past that you use the 'map' spell - or buy a map before you go to the dungeon.
I think there are balancing problems in the fact I learn spells really really fast. I haven't even got to the bottom of the first or shiins dungeon and all of my magic users are already maxed out on everything.
Regardless, when I got my iPad this was my most desired game to be playing on it... unfortunately the graphics need a major iPad update. Really badly. I bet the game didn't sell well enough though for us to get an updated edition. Please update the graphics and this is a 5 star for me. People just don't make games like this and I want to keep playing them.
Love the Genre; Disappointed by the Implementation
I think iOS is a great choice for old-school, turn-based party RPGs, like Wizardry, Might and Magic, Bard's Tale and Etrian Odyssey.
I am glad to have this game, and am playing it. That said, the implementation of this game leaves a lot to be desired.
There's no manual, studying of which was a huge part of the original Wizardry games. These games are largely about stat-heavy planning ahead to build effective and synergistic parties; how can one do that without any foreknowledge of the spells, abilities, races and classes?
The UI and control-scheme are awful. The menus are convoluted, non-intuitive and ugly. The default control system doesn't allow you to tap to turn, instead using tap to sidestep, which isn't a necessary command.
There's no way to hide portraits out of combat so that you can more easily see the walls/labyrinth. I also find myself accidentally hitting them all the time when I have to swipe to turn.
The localization doesn't look like it ever received even a casual proofread (women are referred to as "himself", the paladin-like class is named Load instead of Lord, the text that accompanies casting a spell is bizarre, etc.).
