Yelp is great for traveling
Whether checking out a hotel before booking, or finding a good restaurant in a strange town, Yelp is great when traveling. But I use it all the time at home too. If I want to check store hours, I Yelp it. If I want to see if the specialty store has the thing I want in stock, I Yelp it. Telling people about a brand new restaurant, I Yelp it. Finding hours, address, phone #, or driving directions, yep, Yelp. Yelp makes it easier to find a place even than Googling it.
When not to Yelp? If you have a one time complaint about service. Talk to the manager instead of trashing the place on Yelp. Use Yelp for good and not for revenge. Give the manager a chance to explain and make it right. S/he may have had a server call off sick or had a supplier miss a delivery of your favorite special item. If your food was slow or cold, most servers or managers will comp you a dessert or not charge you for the faulty item. But only if you give them the chance and don't permanently trash their reputation over one flaw or threaten to do so. The NY Times restaurant critic visits a place several times before writing their reviews and you should to. Spread knowledge and joy because karma will get you.
Yama's Fish Market moiliili
I've been coming to this place since it opened. The food is really good. Most of the workers are nice. But my issue with this place is when using my debit card. You would think..... They would quit asking for an ID after going there for years. I've never had a problem before, Just recently. You would think they would even remember your name if the customers were important to them. At this day and age convenience is key. Its sad when you go and realize the "by the book" mentality is carried out this way. Twice we had an issue with showing an ID with purchase. I shouldn't be upset about showing my ID. But if you were appreciated as a longtime customer, you wouldn't need to show your ID EVERY TIME YOU GO! I didn't have it on me at the time. I was not crazy about the idea of going back to the parking lot to get it. Especially cause their parking lot is a joke. The girl behind the counter says to me "sorry, thats my boss." Well, they need to get rid of her or keep her in the back. I was not buying liquor or cigarettes!!! And who would wanna steal a cc or debit card then buy food at Yama's anyway? They need to keep in mind that their business thrives on the regulars and the relationship you have with them. They should really get to know who's buying their food and recognize that. Really disappointed!!!
Yelp is so helpful!
I use Yelp all the time now to help me find new places to eat around the country or let others know about the quality and service of such restaurants around the U.S. that I have experienced first-hand. I can even see pictures that were taken of the establishment.
But, if you think Yelp is just for restaurant reviews, you're wrong. Yelp is helpful in deciding a hotel, reading about what other laymen experienced in such businesses as department stores, new shops, or to even offer help in making a decision regarding where you might have physical therapy, see a doctor or dentist and how long you might have to wait before being seen, or even what florist you might go to and the quality of the service they rendered to others, just to name a few uses.
What Yelp is not, is a movie review app, nor is it a place where you should find people posting scathing or a damning reviews as a personal vendetta.
Yelp is designed to help people in their decisions about business establishment and to help encourage other "Yelpers" (like minded people) in their efforts to post reviews about stores, businesses, or dining establishments they have tried.
So, if you would like others to know about your dining experience or what you personally experienced from a business, Yelp is the app for you.
