Reseña de álbum

Harry Skoler's original inspiration was Benny Goodman, so it was only fitting that he would record a tribute CD to him. Sticking to clarinet except for a lone appearance on tenor ("Undecided"), Skoler teams up with vibraphonist Ed Saindon, bassist Roger Kimball, and drummer Tim Gilmore in a pianoless quartet to play 11 songs associated with the "King of Swing," plus originals "Benny," written by Skoler and Saindon, and "Reflections on the Art of Swing," written by Ed Saindon himself. Some of the tunes (such as "After You've Gone" and "What Can I Say After I Say I'm Sorry") are played in a fashion similar to the Goodman small-group recordings, but, in general, Skoler (who actually sounds closer to Buddy DeFranco than Benny) displays his own musical personality within the genre of swing. Recommended.
