Detroit power poppers the High Strung began their road-warrior tenure of extensive touring and recording in 2000 when most of the bandmembers were living in Brooklyn. Before their landmark album These Are Good Times dropped in 2003, the High Strung had a series of self-released, self-recorded EPs that were only available for a time at their numerous shows. Originally released in 2001, Soap was the first of these, including seven ambitious tracks equal parts gritty and catchy. Songs like "Wrecking Ball, Baby" fall somewhere between the influence of the Beatles' production and Kiss' sleazy riffs.

Motor City natives Mark Owen, Chad Stocker, Josh Malerman, and Derek Berk comprise the founding lineup of the High Strung, whose music borrows equally from melodic power-pop and psychedelic garage rock. Although formed during the summer of 2000, the group's legacy stretches back to elementary school, when the latter three members became best friends at the age of 11. Once they'd entered college, the High Strung began playing shows in the Midwest while concentrating on material for a proper album....
