Alberto Pinton

About Alberto Pinton

Italian reed player Alberto Pinton isn't known for sticking with one instrument, but to most he's probably most familiar as one of Europe's most interesting saxophone players. Born in 1962, Pinton took to the piano and the guitar quickly, but didn't approach the saxophone until the age of 20. Learning privately, Pinton found himself studying with an instructor until 1985, when a move to Sweden convinced him to continue on his own. Participating in the Berklee College summer workshops in Italy, Pinton won himself a full scholarship and picked up the baritone saxophone. Moving to Boston to start his schooling in 1988, Pinton received several scholarships and made a memorable impression throughout his time there. Moving back to Stockholm, he started freelancing but discovered that most of the work lied in New York City. A trip back to the States found him moving to the Big Apple in order to continue his education, and the chance to work in the jazz community there helped his playing immensely. After returning to Stockholm again, Pinton began putting together solo material during the next few years. Despite working with many other artists in this time, he had finished Common Intent by 2001 and released the record that year. ~ Bradley Torreano
