About Asking Alexandria
Since their formation in 2008, Asking Alexandria have played a leading role in elevating metalcore into a commercial force, one rivaling post-grunge and alt-metal for dominance on Billboard’s rock charts. Like Falling In Reverse and Bring Me The Horizon, both of whom also blew up in the early 2010s, the English outfit have achieved this by simultaneously reaffirming the genre’s core strengths and boldly expanding its stylistic parameters. This approach was apparent from the get-go: “Not the American Average,” a hit from their 2009 debut, Stand Up and Scream, captures an up-and-coming act with a talent for marrying violently guttural howls and gnarled breakdowns with pop-metal-inspired hot licks and synth textures imported from electronic music. Even with a string of personnel changes (including the departure and subsequent return of popular singer Danny Worsnop), Asking Alexandria have only moved from strength to strength. Co-produced by Korn’s Jonathan Davis, 2017’s eponymously titled full-length finds them achieving a new level of proficiency, with their trademark tension between brutality and polish presented in its sleekest form yet. Each song, including the hits “Alone in a Room” and “Into the Fire,” races out of the speakers with laser-guided precision. The group opened the 2020s with yet another audacious set; Like a House On Fire has all the ingredients associated with an Asking Alexandria album, at the same time unveiling a newfound love of chunky, bluesy power chords and staticky atmospherics. A year later, they released their a back-to-basics seventh album, See What’s On The Inside—the first made with all five members in the same studio in over a decade.
