Augie Colon

About Augie Colon

Augie Colón was known as the "Grandfather of Percussion" in his home of Hawaii, where he was a popular session musician and bandleader. He is best known outside of the island state through his association with exotica bandleader Martin Denny. Colón can be heard on Denny's classic 1959 recording "Quiet Village" providing not only percussion but the distinctive birdcalls that are voiced in the recording as well. Colón passed away at the age of 76 on June 11, 2004, after suffering complications related to diabetes. ~ Wade Kergan
