Based in Nashville, Tennessee, Mason broke into the music industry as a songwriter, penning songs for Nick Jonas, among others. She began her solo career with the single "Shade of You," which earned some attention in 2014, the same year that she served as an opening act on Demi Lovato's spring tour.
