About EDEN

Irish singer/songwriter and producer Jonathon Ng has remained steadfastly independent, even as his intimate electro-R&B has climbed up charts around the world. Born in Dublin in 1995, the young Ng was classically trained in violin, starting at age 7, but eventually sought freedom in rock and pop, teaching himself piano and guitar and joining an array of bands as a teenager. By 2013, he was experimenting with production and unveiled The Eden Project, an outlet for fierce, fidgety EDM. However, he’d soon find his groove in a sound far more low-key and lo-fi, stripping away the booming club beats for introspective indie songwriting. To match the stylistic switch, he shortened his alias to EDEN; started his own record label, MCMXCV; and released debut EP End Credits, all in 2015—and all from his bedroom. As EDEN, his work reflects the comfort and confidential confines of such a personal space, letting us slip between his sheets—and into the corners of his mind—with the pensive pop and heavy throb of songs like “sex” and “drugs.” In tandem with his rising profile, Ng’s slow-burning synth-infused melodies have grown grander and more expansive, echoing James Blake’s cavernous confessions and Drake’s romantic reflections. Still, Ng continues to write out his song and album titles all in lowercase, a modest symbol for what his music is all about: giving space and profound meaning to our smallest and most vulnerable moments.
