About Laurel Halo

Electronic composer/musician Laurel Halo has recorded for the labels Hippos in Tanks, Hyperdub, and Honest Jon's. She learned to play piano, guitar, and violin while growing up in Ann Arbor, Michigan and began composing when she was 19, drawing from classical theory, sounds she heard at dance parties, time in free jazz ensembles, and a stint as a free-form DJ. After several EPs, including King Felix (2010) and Hour Logic (2011), she made a breakthrough with the disquieting Quarantine (2012), named Album of the Year by The Wire. Halo's sound continued to evolve through a series of collaborative works and albums including Chance of Rain (2013), In Situ (2015), and Dust (2017). ~ Heather Phares
