A band whose music (an oddball fusion of heavy metal with appositely upbeat pop elements and almost psychedelic sounds) was as peculiar as their moniker, Los Angeles, CA's Jesters of Destiny confused way too many people to make much of a name for themselves during their brief run through the mid-'80s. If only they'd emerged a decade later, when the convenient label of "alternative metal" was generously bandied about to everyone from Jane's Addiction to Faith No More, the band might have had better luck; but as it played out, their 1986 LP, Fun at the Funeral (preceded by the L.A. metal rite-of-passage that was inclusion in a Metal Massacre compilation), fell mostly upon deaf and/or perplexed ears upon release. And what passed for the band's most stable lineup -- vocalist/bassist Bruce Duff, guitarists Ray Violet and Michael Montano, and drummer Dave Kuzma -- effectively crumbled after recording a 1987 covers EP, entitled In a Nostalgic Mood. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia
