About Mae McKenna
b. Scotland. A contemporary Scottish vocalist who contributed an impressive performance on Contraband’s sole album in 1973. Shortly after they disbanded, Transatlantic launched McKenna as a singer-songwriter. She recorded a series of competent, but undistinguished albums before spending most of the 80s as a session singer with pop artists such Rick Astley, and Ultravox. In 1988 McKenna surprisingly reappeared on the Virgin Records Venture offshoot with the Celtic, new age Nightfallers. The ensuing album, Mirage & Reality, displayed her Enya -like qualities and while not as strong as its predecessor, included a stunning interpretation of the Gaelic ‘St. Columbia’s Hymn’.
