About The Beakers
Even though the Beakers only managed to last for 12 months (January 1980 to January 1981), they earned a reputation respectable enough to earn testimonials from such legends as Gang of Four and Soundgarden. Formed in Seattle, members Mark H. Smith (vocals and guitar), George Romansic (drums), Frankie Sundsten (bass), and Jim Anderson (sax) would only release a number of regional compilation tracks and 7" singles before calling it a day. However short the band's longevity may have been, the Beakers were a solid enough band to open for Gang of Four and garner comparisons to such underground heavyweights as Talking Heads and Minutemen. The band's work was committed to CD in 2004, on the K Records-released Four Steps to a Cultural Revolution anthology. ~ Christopher M. True
