Perfection Through Simplistic Beauty

I always loved this Balmorhea album. The remixed version has simply taken away the rawness that is prevalent throughout the original and created something much more refined and smooth-textured.

What stands out for me the most in this remixed album is the symmetry in the volume. Particular Balmorhea songs can often become surprisingly loud in parts. "Harm & Boon" is a perfect example of this. The original version goes from very peaceful piano to sudden and loud guitar and violin in the first 2 minutes, whereas both remixed versions of the song remain at a quiet, even-textured volume throughout (and don't hurt my delicate eardrums when I have my headphones in at full volume).

I also really enjoy Helio's touch to the song "Truth", which is my favourite song by far on both the original and the remixed album. Though I have to admit after listening to them both on repeat a number of times I decided that my ears took a better liking to the Helios remix, partially due to the volume balance issue I mentioned above, and partly because I love Helios.

The soft melodies and eerily beautiful harmonies of this album are incredibly peaceful and often goose bump invoking, which is, in my opinion, the best kind of music. I prefer my music to be consistently quiet and kind to the ears, somewhat sad or thought provoking, and soft enough for me to think, so this album really suites me.
