Saw him live in Perth and he was a class act (just wish people would be quieter at gigs). Must have been what it was like to see James Taylor as a young man. Strummed and plucked classical guitar form the backdrop to his soft and smooth vocal delivery. Check out the original version of Heartbeats on his other album. Recommended.

I first saw Jose played on Swedish television station ZTV when I was living in Goteborg around two years ago with the single 'Crosses' and was instantly blown away. I'm lucky enough now that I can associate such a beautiful song with a particular time in my life. The other main single that was released at that time was 'Heartbeats' (a song originally recorded by fellow Swedes 'The Knife' and for anyone who appreciated Jose's version it's quite interesting to see the difference between the two). I saw Jose play at his sold out show at the Northcote Social Club in Melbourne and to be honest it was everything I'd hoped it would be. The man was humble and , with his seemingly simple lyrics and music, astonished everyone in the room. Sample the songs 'Slow Moves' and 'Hints' and if you like them, buy the album. Oddly enough, he included quite a number of covers and most of these are on his tour album which should also be seriously considered. Kylie Minogue's 'Hand On Your Heart' sounded, to me anyway, as though he'd originally written it. I can't recommend Jose Gonzalez enough and anyone who supports the Dalai Lama's visit (12th of June this year, Goteborg, Sweden) has got to have his fair share of credentials.

Covers all bases

Thi EP has all the hallmarks of Gonzáles: stirring instrumentals, brilliant originals and freshly appropriated classics. His distinctive less-is-more style strips the songs down to their barest, allowing listeners to feel as though they're in the same room as him. The remix doesn't come close to Gonzáles' own cover, so think of it as a bonus; though his cover of Joy Division's 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' alone is worth the price of this EP. It's hard not to have high expectations for the upcoming tour.

Although his parents are Argentine, singer/songwriter José González was born in Sweden, where he became nationally renowned for his mix of autumnal indie pop and intimate acoustics. Following stints with hardcore bands during the 1990s, González formed the indie rock outfit Junip alongside organist Elias Araya and drummer Tobias Winterkorn; they released their first EP, Straight Lines, in 2000. González officially launched his solo career with the release of 2003's Veneer, an entirely acoustic affair...
