iTunes Review

Tackling The Beatles’ catalogue is no easy task. But Aussie jazz singer Katie Noonan’s reinvention of these Lennon/McCartney evergreens feels completely natural. Of course, it doesn’t hurt to have heavyweights like bassist Ron Carter, sax man Joe Lovano and guitarist John Scofield on her team. Still, with her shimmering take on the title tune and her deftly darting, bop-informed approach to “Eleanor Rigby”, it’s Noonan’s interpretive powers that really put this one over.

Sweet, simple, beautiful

Katie's new album is regrettably filled with covers, but only she could pull this off like she has... her beautiful voice and the soft touch of jazz is great and she's managed to delicately rearrange classics into her own unique style - this album is beautiful but not suitable for narrow minded beatles worshipers who stubbornly cling to the past, or teen boppers who are devoted to computerised beats - this is a treasure for those who don't sit inside the box

Yuck, she's managed to take some of the most memorably tuneful pop melodies ever and murder them with aimless, jazzy chirping. Her version of Elearnor Rigby is pure horror, I wish I could make myself un-listen it.

A truly gorgeous experience.

Yet another gorgeous offering from the ever-beautiful Katie Noonan. Not an album for die-hard fans of the Beetles, and perhaps not for your average narrow-minded listener, this truly unique and astoundingly lush setting of some of Lennon and McCartney's more introspective works is truly a remarkable achievement. The stunning work of the renowned Joe Lovano on saxophone provides the perfect compliment for Katie's beautiful ethereal tones, floating gorgeously on an undercurrent of warm and rich accompaniment from the rest of the ensemble. Katie excels yet again in taking her work a step further askew of expectations and it pays off brilliantly in this divine tribute to two of the greatest songwriters of all time. A well-earned 5 stars.
