Blues Session at Bluenote

This kind of Blues was one of the things that attracted me to Jazz all those years ago! Who was it that said 'there"s nothing like a blues to cheer you up', or words to that effect? The sound quality is OK, at least for a recording made in 1944, probably made under less than ideal conditions. The style is typical Art Hodes simplicity, not many notes, but every one to telling effect. This is true of the other performers, whoever they may be. Jughead Boogie is a happy contrast, boogie and the blues and some incisive trumpet. My only complaint with this, and most other Jazz albums from iTunes is that no information is given about personnel, either instrumental or vocal, and that is a serious omission when dealing with such historic material. But the music, all too short!

Born in Russia, he came to America with his family when he was six months old and grew up in Chicago....
