So You Think You Can Dance Do You?

What does a musician need to do to get some kind of recognition in their home country?

Play with Sarah Mclachlan both as support act and as part of the band? Check.
Duet with David Bowie? Check.

Release of songs on major television show soundtracks? Check.
CoProduce an Australian musician's soon-to-be-released album? Check.

What about create a fun, solid, beautiful album full of beautifully written and musically outstanding songs? Well, Butterfly's done that three times now… even with a somewhat unsupportive label and what seems like an unsupportive radio culture in Australia.

I've heard her style described as "idiosyncratic pop," her passion to create her own music and sound being her primary concern over and beyond creating the pop-single thats created simply for the radio waves to play and discard like the latest fad to go out of style.

Tracks like 5678!, Not Fooling Around and None The Wiser may just have you up and dancing to her embracing the electro beats (and if Aston Shuffle is looking for some inspired music to remix I wouldn't be surprised if they choose one of these three) while the fun of Unashamed Desire (cowritten with Missy Higgins who has recently released the same track as a single) and the cut-back rock vocals of Warning Bell will have you needing to listen to this album a number of times to get to know it's highs & lows and to get acquainted with Butterfly's style and beauty.

And if you're still not sure, check out the Music Video for 5678! and put on your dancing shoes.

A great release for a musician who's become her own boss again and seems to be loving it.

Born into the middle of a seven-daughter family with creative and free-spirited parents, Butterfly Boucher received her first name courtesy of some divine intervention her mother was experiencing. A picture on an elementary school wall, a print on a dance teacher's leotard, and a 45 rpm single of "The Butterfly Song" (brought home by one of Mrs. Boucher's other daughters) all pointed to the name. Butterfly's father had pursued a professional career in music, but when that failed, all their possessions...
