Album Review

"It's been a lifetime mean from drinkin'/Cheatin' and shankin' man dead," sings C.C. Adcock on "Couchemal," the first track from his debut eponymous album. This line pretty well sums up this record, with its Louisiana swamp blues grooves and gritty lyrics. Any record that has a song called "Kissin' Kouzans" on it (a lovely ode to small-town intermarriage) is liable to have a distinctive vibe to it, and C.C. Adcock does not disappoint. Well-executed sleaze, even if the record (although it is not much over a half-hour) feels like it goes on for too long. Dirty in every sense of the word.
