Strange Talk Delivers Solid Debut.

Strange Talk have been slowly building towards the release of their debut album, with the releases of an EP and several singles over the last 18 months or so. Combined with a bunch of impressive live shows around Australia, and regular airplay on Triple J, this band has quickly earned itself a loyal following from music lovers.

For those who are unfamiliar with Strange Talk, the band brings its audience a fulfilling dose of synth soaked indie pop. Drawing influence from acts such as Cut Copy, Phoenix and perhaps even 1980s pop legends such as New Order, Strange Talk has succeeded in delivering a classy collection of pop songs. Despite obvious throwback to the 1980s at times, Strange Talk still has a remarkably fresh sound about them.

The bulk of the instrumentation has been performed and recorded by Gerhard Sidhu and Stephen Docker. Docker provides vocals and does so with a great sounding voice.

The album opens with two previous singles, Cast Away and Falling In Love, both which have been recieving steady radio love on Triple J in recent months. Stand out tracks include So So La La, Take Me As I Am, their debut single Climbing Walls and even the ballad Come Back Home. If there was one moment which probably doesnt quite work on this album it would be the track Morning Sun. While it slowly builds up after a few bars, you sense that this track is going somewhere, however in the end it doesnt really seem to anyhwhere at all. The album finishes on a high note with Wanted (Dead Or Alive) with its obvious 1980s dance pop influence.

The boys from Strange Talk have delivered a very strong debut, and this album certainly shows that this band have the smarts and talent to be a force in the Australian music scene for years to come. Im already awaiting their next album.
