EDITORS’ NOTES

The songs on Catherine Britt’s seventh album were written in a daze of relief: the country singer, her mother and her mother-in-law were all diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, and all made it into remission. The scare sent Britt into a new creative headspace, prompting her to set off in a camper around Australia with her husband and new baby while putting together what she calls her most country album yet. “I’m feeling a little bit like I’ve gone back to my roots and where it all began,” she told the Australian. On “I’m Not Ready”, a spirited strummer built around a patchwork of harmonies, she grips on tight: “I’m not ready to close that door on life/I’m not ready to say goodbye.”
