Surprisingly Great

I borrowed this CD by chance from my local library - I probably wouldn't have thought to buy a Tex Perkins record previously, but this album is very solid. It fits into the alt. country category, but don't let that put you off - the top dozen or so alt. country albums have been as good as any music released in the last 15 years or so, and I would put this album in that category. It's quite surprising given that despite going by the moniker of 'Tex' this big hairy Aussie would never have been considered a country artist, but then he releases this album and it seems so natural and self-assured. It would seem that Tex was able to assemble some of the cream of Australia's musicians and just laid down the 11 tracks. None of the individual songs are in themselves Earth shattering - just words put to good music, the album succeeds because each track is quality and they go together so well. Importantly it's clear that he hasn't imitated anybody else or tried to sing with the kind of affect that is unfortunately so prevelant in most highly marketed modern music. When a big guy like Tex holds back a little bit, the result can be well worth the download price. I believe I've heard Paul Kelly say good things about this album as well, but I don't know PK personally so that's just heresay.

Saw this with a friend

I saw these guys at Tilly's in 2004 with my good friend Jezza. I still cannot stop listening to this indescribable recording. This music plonked itself down into my soul and said, "this is what I think". I love this music, it has something magical about it. Everyone should hear these songs.
