Another intriguingly patchy album from John Darnielle - at its best, breathtaking, which makes the lows as disappointing as ever. His skill: in making the mundane transcendant , and eulogising the more remarkable moments of life. This reads like travelling music: the echos of people and places past; the references to geography, transport, trauma - the things that link us and move us on again; and the relentless churn of contemplation. As always, everyone will have a different take on these songs - tragic; hopeful; indulgent; celebratory. Enjoy.
