Editors’ Notes

After years of being fed through the tabloid wringer, Jessica Simpson deserves a fresh start. Produced by hit-makers John Shanks and Brett James, her country debut Do You Know is a credible work by Nashville commercial standards. For her part, Simpson sings tunes (largely co-written by her) that fit comfortably with her sultry, emotionally-vulnerable persona. Life-affirming songs like “Still Beautiful” and “Pray Out Loud” come across as pleasant filler, while “When I Loved You Like That” and “Might As Well Be Making Love” smolder but never quite ignite. Knowing Simpson’s personal history enhances the bedroom challenge of “Man Enough” and the heartsick recrimination of “Sipping on History.” The hard-charging “Come on Over” and the passionate title number (written and co-sung by Dolly Parton) are particularly strong tracks. Do You Know suffers a bit from taking itself too seriously — there’s lots of lust, some angst but not much fun here —but overall this is a polished affair with some genuine high points.

Customer Reviews

its s shame that not only is jessica trying to bring up old headline grabbing items, like her relationship with nick lachey - to try and get press, but the fact is that this album does not cut it either in the country OR the pop genre's - i am a HUGE fan of this lady, but this album is the worst ever! it makes me cry to hear something so bad from someone so good - unfortunately her latest "awesome" performance was the "i am going to love you forever" at the American music awards.... since then its all been trash and headlines as far as the music is concerned.... shame... or should i say "pity".

One Step Back

Sadly a bad career move. This CD is too middle-of- the- road. A safe collection that wont attract any new fans. Maybe time for her to get married and settle down with kids

Not her Best!!!!

This was a bad move by jessica. The best song she sang was 'These Boots are made for Walkin". Its an ok album but it could be much better

Although Jessica Simpson dabbled in film, reality TV, and eventually contemporary country music during the 2000s, she is best known as a dance-pop vocalist who rose to fame in the late '90s alongside such teenaged acts as 98°. Simpson was born and raised in Dallas, TX, where she began her performing career as a member of her church choir; at 12, she also auditioned unsuccessfully for The Mickey Mouse Club. While attending church camp the following summer, Simpson was discovered by the head of a tiny...
