iTunes Review

Released at the outset of a new millennium, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots found the noise-rockers inventing a musical landscape in which trepidation and awe collide. “Fight Song” and “One More Robot/Sympathy 3000-21” overwhelm the listener with a lava flow of sonic pleasures—gurgling synths, gelatinous basslines, levitating vocals—while “In the Morning of Magicians” unearths the sweetly melancholic folk songs lurking beneath layers of auditory stimulation. With Wayne Coyne’s childlike voice calling out through an orchestral hail, “Do You Realize” becomes a blissful hymn for an uncertain future.

Some key tracks to have a listen too are Fight Test (You can hear a strong resemblence to Cat Steven's Father and Son here), Yoshimi Battles the pink robots pt 1 (A sing along classic and personal favourite) and Do you Realize? This album is their breakthru and a great addition to a record collection.

An acid-bubblegum band with as much affinity for sweet melodies as blistering noise assaults, their off-kilter...
