iTunes Review

MGMT’s full-length debut is a densely layered, proudly psychedelic delight. The songs are strong enough to stand up to the bold (mostly synthesized) aural choices made by producer Dave Fridmann (of Flaming Lips fame). Fridmann’s skillful touch, spot-on sequencing, and a distinctive MGMT sparkle help tie together these stylistic adventures. This colorful debut is a dazzling trip through 40 years of psychedelic pop.

Customer Reviews

Singles = great, Album = not so great

Time To Pretend = 5 STARS, amazing song Weekend Wars = 4 STARS, typical latter-single but not the best The Youth = 4 STARS, not a bad song really Electric Feel = 5 STARS, an absolute modern classic Kids = 5 STARS, one of the best songs of the year 4th Dimensional Transition = 2 STARS, inevitably the album takes a turn for the worse Pieces of What = 1 STAR, yeah... exactly... what. Of Moons, Birds & Monsters = 2 STARS solid song, but forgettable. The Handshake = 1 STAR... yawn... the album has died now, all the magic of the first half is gone Future Reflections = 2 STARS. Disappointing ending, no big finish, left me feeling flat. VERDICT: Average Rating is therefore NOT FIVE STARS for the album, but 3.1 STARS OVERALL Albums only deserve 5 stars when every single song is incredible. I love MGMT but I can't say this album stands up after the 5th track finishes.

Innovative, original and fabulous!

Brilliant first album from the NY boys MGMT. Varied and original; this album is a great buy!

Oracular Spectacular is exactly that!!!

Wasnt too sure when i first listened... Kids converted me... Electric feel hooked me... and Time to pretend held me.. The youth convinced me to purchase tix to the concert!!!! Looking forward to that...

Finding an unlikely middle point between Suicide's hostile, proto-electro punk art noise and the sardonic, pop-friendly sound of the Flaming Lips, MGMT started as electroclash musical terrorists but quickly grew into an eclectic, brainy pop group with psychedelic overtones. MGMT first formed in 2002, during Ben Goldwasser and Andrew Van Wyngarden's freshman year as art students at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. The band was initially known as the Management, and its shows consisted...
