The Front gets more layers

I've been an MC Frontalot listener for many years, since way back when the Penny Arcade guys named him their rapper laureate. If you go back and listen to those old tracks you can hear how simple they are, but his talent with rhyme has always been there. Somewhat syncopated, somewhat out of kilter, always clever and funny and that awesome kind of complicated that makes you think "how the hell did he manage to pull off that line?". This new album is more layered and "produced" than his previous efforts, I think it's both more mature and more assured - but just as intelligent and witty. Wallflowers is rad, Shame of the Otaku is funny, Canadia is even funnier and the skit with Will Wheaton is made of pure win. My only regret is that he reworked A Very Unlikely Occurrence. There was something about that song that I found very touching, it's one of my all time faves, and it just doesn't work for me with the polka-esque thing going on with it now. All up this is one of my very favourite albums by the Front. Highly recommended. Buy it so the Front can get himself that lime popsicle he's always dreamt of owning.

Hip-hop can be about anything, as proven and embodied by MC Frontalot, a proud nerd who takes the stage in glasses, tie, and pocket protector to rap about webcomics, computer games, blogs, and picking up girls at Star Wars conventions. MC Frontalot was born...
