The Business’ debut is a slab of Dixie-fried energy rock that delivers endless thrills. J. Roddy Walston is a howler who slobbers all over the mic and pounds barrelhouse piano. Drummer Steve Colmus never lets up; on “Stop Rip and Roll” and “Used to Did”, he proves that his stomp is central to the group’s sound. But not everything is slathered in backwoods savagery. These guys are versatile enough to weave tricky Britpop harmonies into “Go Malachi”, “Nineteen Ought Four” and a few other cool tunes.
