A tasty "lollipop"!

Instantly catchy, Mika uses an ecclectic batch of ingredients to cook up a freshly original masterpiece. Tracks sample flavours such as JT falsetto, Beatles feelgood melodies & Scissor Sister campness to get you moving with an album that is definately as colourful a "Cartoon Motion"... My favorite album of the year so far!

Guilty Pleasure!

What an incredibly good pop album. This is anything but pretentious and knows it too. The songs are all so different, you could be forgiven for thinking they are sung by different artists - I hear hints of the Scissor Sisters, The Beatles and Joshua Kadison all in there. This reminds me of what pop is actually meant to be, well constructed, solid songs that appeal to the masses. I can't help but think that while some people would be laughing at Mika's embracing of such pop, he is laughing along with us.

Pop Candy, but perhaps too sweet.

If you're a teenibopper, you will love this. If you're interested in more mature music, you will hate this. But this album is designed to be taken lightly. It's a fun album, the artist cares not what you think, he's just doing what he loves. And who can blame someone for doing what they love. All the better if they get fans to like their style too. However, the album is a bit relentlessly ecclectically happy. Perhaps strangely, my favourite track was the only mellow, sombre track on the album: Any Other World. It would seem that by the time this song comes up, you're pretty much begging for a break. After that four minute reflection, it's BAM back into the gayest craziest pop once again without so much of a breathing space. For this reason, the album falls down. Sure, the cover art is second-to-none, and props go to AIRSIDE for it's design. (They're the same people who designed LEMON JELLY's cover art.) Sorry though, but an hour of Mika is about all I can handle before it's pop sweetness leaves me feeling diabetic.

Pop magpie Mika's bright, kaleidoscopic music has drawn comparisons to everyone from Queen and Elton John to the Scissor Sisters and Rufus Wainwright. Born Michael Holbrook Penniman in Beirut to a Lebanese mother and American father, Mika and his parents moved to Paris while he was still very young, and eventually London by the time he was nine years old. The frequent moves, incidents like his father being taken hostage at Kuwait's American Embassy, and bullying at school affected young Mika to the...
