iTunes Review

For their seventh album, Tegan and Sara put down their guitars and made a consummate shift to stratospheric synth-pop. It unites the sisters' once-disparate songwriting sensibilities to massive effect: “Closer” and “Drove Me Wild” are dizzyingly euphoric, yet the populist shift doesn’t sacrifice their emotional complexity. “I Was a Fool” is a gorgeous piano ballad, “Shock to Your System” a dystopian girl-group number, and on “I'm Not Your Hero”, Sara sings candidly about the difficulty of being a queer role model. Deep yet danceable, Heartthrob is one of the finest pop records of the '10s.

Excited, As Always

I can't wait for this album! You guys have continually surprised us with the musical shift that you guys go through every time you release an album. From the Wiccan rock (I think that's what you guys referred to it) of Under Feet Like Ours and This Business Of Art, the punk rock era of If It Was You and the more recent The Con and Sainthood - and don't forget the awesome acoustic-ised Get Along - I can't wait for this new album, after hearing a bit of electronic feel to it.

Also, I have said this about 3 times publicly, but I'm proud to hear "Closer" today. :D

Also, I can't wait to actually preorder the physical album too. :)

Already Amazing

After listening to Closer and Im not your hero studio verisions its clear that this album is a indie/pop/dance record and although I wish tegan and sara werent doing like this I cannot wait to hear the full album and see what else they have up their sleeves. I love their new songs and their live versions too.

Incredible record. Very impressive!

The thing I love about this album, is that it stands on a distinct line between the pop and the alternative world. That is why I find it really appealing. It's an extraordinary blend of both elements, somehow turning out to be a well-polished product. There is not much I can fault here. Greg Kurstin played a fundamental part of the production, on a large bulk of the tracks and I think he did an outstanding job. He gave the girls the opportunity to develop their sound a little more, while still retaining that classic "Tegan and Sara" stamp people know and love. It's not like they went and made a generic pop record. There is still real depth and substance there. I wish the bitter people could just drop the "sell out" comments and appreciate the music for what it is. 'Heartthrob' is a well-written and well-produced album and I think the songs could resonate with a lot of people. This is certainly worth the purchase in my opinion. It's great!

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

An award winning, internationally successful indie pop duo comprised of identical siblings Tegan and Sara Quin, Tegan and Sara first burst onto the Canadian music scene in 1998, when they earned the highest score in history at Calgary's "Garage Warz" competition; their quick rise didn't stop, for their melodic acoustics and charming stage personas led to a slew of dates with Sarah McLachlan's Lilith Fair that same year and a record deal with Neil Young's Vapor Records in April 2000.
