iTunes Editors' Notes

Deerhunter’s fourth studio album invokes the blissed-out sonic textures and stark beauty of 4AD’s roster back in its late-‘80s/early-‘90s heyday, while retaining the innovative and successful sound experiments associated with Kranky Records. Halcyon Digest is a dreamier-sounding affair than preceding recordings, beginning with “Earthquake,” a slowly layered composition where gauzy electric guitars are looped alongside lazy beats and dive-bomb leads reminiscent of Slowdive’s first two EPs. “Don’t Cry” shifts gears to lock into a more '60s inspired sound where fuzzy distortion and reverb add a bygone teenage-delinquent vibe that the band carry into “Basement Scene,” which sounds largely inspired by The Everlys’ “All I Have To Do Is Dream.” The drop-dead gorgeous “Desire Lines” is everything a good indie-rock song should be; catchy, clever, demure, melodic, rough-around-the-edges and confident in the balance of familiarity and forward thinking ideas. Dedicated to Jay Reatard, “He Would Have Laughed” unpredictably eschews obvious garage-rock trappings for beautifully haunting tiers of tonalities and lyrical nostalgia.

Tips for writing a great review:

- Do not use profanity or overtly sexual language.

Sorry Apple. I want to do this album. Its that good.

AMAZING - just listen and see...

This band are incredible and have created this album that is a testament to that fact.
I could go on forever describing the pure creativity, stunning originality, comforting nostalgia and edgy vocals that is perfectly peppered throughout each song of Deerhunter's Halycon Digest but just listen to it and see for yourself :)

Highlights are Desire Lines, which is beyond words, and Helicopter takes you to another place and is a thing of beauty...

BUY THIS ALBUM :)

Dont look

I'd do this record too. Good call . Nothing to fault with this masterpiece, absolute quality all the way through, especially the last three tunes. Compelled me to write my first ever Itunes review so it's an emotional time.

Biography

Formed: 2001 in Atlanta, GA

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Deerhunter are an experimental noise rock band from Atlanta, fronted by the compellingly odd singer Bradford Cox. Cox's vocal style blends vocal experimentation along the lines of Meredith Monk or Yoko Ono with a more direct and punky howl inspired by the Fall's Mark E. Smith. Cox is also a striking on-stage presence: the exceedingly skinny 6'4" lead singer has Marfan syndrome, a genetic disorder of the connective tissue that gives him abnormally long and spindly limbs. (The late Joey Ramone was...
