Album Review

Turning to involved percussion tracks and horns, Winwood turns another musical corner on this sophisticated album, which contains echoes of everything from gospel to Caribbean music. Contains the number one hit "Higher Love."

My casette copy of this album busted years ago as I played it death and I never got around to replacing on CD....thank god for iTunes as it introduced me back to one of the GREATEST ALBUM's on this earth! Great music from a master muso!

Don't believe me! In 2008, Rolling Stone magazine ranked this man #33 in its 100 Greatest Singers of All Time. Eric Clapton said he was one the greatest he ever played with. Google him for his biography. This Man gave the world "Gimme Some Lovin" and lot of other classics As a young teenager he played backup musician to legendary bluesmen such as Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker and B.B.King on their UK tours before fronting the Spencer Davis Group at age of 15 and I had the privelige to watch him live back in 1991. It was the greatest concert I have ever been to. This is one of the all time great albums of the 80's and trust me it's definetly worth a listen! His greatest hits "Chronicles" is also brilliant!

Yuppie Winwood

This album contains one gem; 'Split Decision'. Winwood wrote it with Joe Walsh, who also played guitar on it. This album is worth it for this song alone, although 'Back in the High Life Again' is also very good.

Yet his turn as a slick, upscale mainstay of adult contemporary radio was simply the latest phase of a long and varied career, one that's seen the former teenage R&B shouter move through jazz, psychedelia, blues-rock, and progressive rock. Possessed of a powerful, utterly distinctive voice, Winwood was also an excellent keyboardist who remained an in-demand session...
