It Was Written is loaded with lyrics so intricate, you can envision them scribbled in shabby composition books. The result is an album that plays out like a panoramic shot of both the circa-’90s projects and the mind of a brilliant storyteller. Tales like “The Message” and “Street Dreams” are as rough as they are reflective, but Nas still has a way of casually breezing over beats—whether he’s observing the war zone from inside or, on “If I Ruled the World”, dreaming of a way out.
Easily His Best
I'm not a fan of rap anymore, nothing great like this has come out in years, rap is now condemned to posers and weak rhymes about money and B**ches, the meaning and the depth has gone out of it and been replaced by popstars..... This album is sensational, one of the best from raps golden era of the mid 90's, The album kicks off to the message which is deep and a great song with better lyrics, If I ruled the world has a killer beat, and songs like SUspect, affirmative action, and Take It In Blood will remind any true rap fan of what rap really was, as he said "hip hop is dead", but luckily great albums like this are still out there.
rwal good a mad artist at his best
NAS's best work. Love this album.
