This lavish 14-CD box set collects all of Fabrizo De André's studio albums, as well as the rare singles Il Pescatore and Una Storia Sbagliata. The greatest Italian singer/songwriter, De André was first and foremost an album artist. There are no duds in his impeccable discography: every one of these records is essential for an understanding of modern Italian music. This superb Ricordi box set does not include, however, any of his five excellent live releases, or the early singles De André made for the Karim label —although most of those songs are present here in their superior album versions.

With the death of Fabrizio De André from cancer on January 11, 1999, Italy lost one of its most modern singer/songwriters. Inspired by the songwriting of Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen, De André's songs encompassed Genoese folk songs, French protest/social commentary, beatnik "stream of consciousness" poetry, and the soundtracks of Italian film Westerns.
