18 Songs, 1 Hour 12 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

This is the sort of program you’d encounter in the days when classical musicians were given prime-time TV shows: an easy blend of art songs, folk songs, popular tunes kitted out with words, plus something to show off the singer’s background. Rhodes does all that and more here, his firm baritone put to good use. He pushes the appropriate emotional buttons on “I’ll Walk Beside You” and ‘“She Was Beautiful”—to Stanley Myers’ Cavatina, best-known from The Deer Hunter—and also shows off his classical credentials nicely with pieces by Schubert and Tchaikovsky.
