iTunes Review

Whitney Houston possessed the kind of vocal wizardry that could transform “The Star Spangled Banner” into a soulful, emotionally transcendent anthem—and here it’s an honest-to-goodness power ballad. This expansive collection offers both breadth and depth: Achingly romantic tunes from The Bodyguard soundtrack (“I Will Always Love You” and “Run to You”) complement snappy remixes of early-career gems (“I Wanna Dance With Somebody”) and deeper cuts like (“One Moment In Time”). It’s the definitive overview of one of pop music’s truly unparalleled talents.

In Memory Of An Icon

When I learned of Whitney's passing, I cried. It was the first time the death of an artist had impacted me in such a way. But I also became angry. I was angry because it took something so tragic for many of us to remember how gifted and talented she truly was. I got angry because even now people talk about her drug habits, her addictions as though it somehow diminishes her. She was gifted and yes over the years her voice deteriorated, but even at her worst, Whitney Houston was still twenty times better than most are at there very best. She was the first singer who ever made me stand up and really listen. She sang from the heart to the heart. She never went for vocal gymnastics because she didn't need to. She held a note like nobody elses business with her booming voice and it ripped right through the speakers. She was like a chorus of singing angels in the one person. We will never hear a voice like that again. Nobody will ever be able to fill that void, nobody will ever be able to match her talent. I was only ten years old when Whitney released her first album and I can still remember singing her songs and trying to hit all the notes in the school library when I shouldn't even say boo. I just couldn't help myself, I just loved her songs that much. And sadly I remember still listening to her on my Ipod the day before she died and wondered when her next album would be released, .I didn't forget her, how could I when her songs had become part of the tapestry of my life for twenty seven years. I didn't know her, none of us did. But let us be honest she gave us so much of herself and so many of us never realised it. I'm sorry we won't hear any more Whitney material. But I'm grateful and so must we all be for everything she had given.. So I say, Thank You Whitney Houston for sharing your amazing gift with us and wherever you may be, I hope that you are singing proudly and strongly once more.

Whitney Houston was inarguably one of the biggest female pop stars of all time. Her accomplishments as a hitmaker were extraordinary; just to scratch the surface, she became the first artist ever to have seven consecutive singles hit number one, and her 1993 Dolly Parton cover "I Will Always Love You" became nothing less than the biggest hit single in rock history. Houston was able to handle big adult contemporary ballads, effervescent, stylish dance-pop, and slick urban contemporary soul with equal...
