Album Review

More cinematic, melodic, and mellow than their usual experimental indie pop output, Keep You Close is the sixth studio album from one of Belgium's biggest musical exports, dEUS. Compared to the likes of Elbow, Tindersticks, and Broadcast, the follow-up to 2008's Vantage Point features the single "Constant Now" and two tracks featuring guest vocals from former Afghan Whigs frontman Greg Dulli ("Twice [We Survive]," "Dark Sets In"). ~ Jon O'Brien, Rovi

Keep you close is epic and cinematic in sweep - long and slow-burning songs. The title track especially. It also rocks hard in places - Dark Sets in for example. Deus no longer have the gritty almost perverse edge they one had. Rather, this Deus mark-two are more radio-friendly and restrained crew as a whole. So while Keep You Close doesn't hit the great heights of their brilliant records like In A Bar at the Bottom of the Sea or Instant Crash, it still doesn't disappoint. They really are one of the best bands most people have never heard!

Formed in Antwerp in 1991, dEUS began their career as strictly a cover band, but soon began performing new material, honing an irreverent, free-form live show drawing on influences ranging from folk and punk to jazz...
