Album Review

With little publicity, radio play, or MTV exposure, Korn took their eponymous 1994 debut to platinum status. Like all unexpected successes, it's easier to understand its popularity in retrospect. Although they disdain the "metal" label, there's no question that Korn are among the vanguard of post-grunge alt-metal outfits. Borrowing from Jane's Addiction, Rage Against the Machine, Pantera, Helmet, Faith No More, Anthrax, Public Enemy, and N.W.A, Korn developed a testosterone-fueled, ultra-aggressive metal-rap hybrid. They're relentless, both in their musical attack and in lead singer Jonathan Davis' bleak, violent lyrics. Tales of abuse and alienation run rampant throughout the record. It's often disturbing and, to some ears, even offensive, but their music can have a cathartic effect that makes up for their vulgarity and questionable lapses in taste. It's a powerful sound and one that actually builds on the funk-metal innovations of the late '80s/early '90s instead of merely replicating them.

What started KoRn!!!

This is the first album of KoRn and is awesome with many great hits such as Blind, Clown, Shoots and Ladders, Faget, Daddy and pretty much the rest of the album. Jonanthan Davis pulls off so many different vocals with guitarists Munky (James Shaffer) and Head (Brian Welch) adding some awesome riffs and Fieldy doing the same on bass and who could forget David Silveria on drums. IF YOU have not heard of KoRn i ask you to buy this album!!!! ITS Awesome!!! and if you have some KoRn already but not this album your missing out!!! Get your daily meal of KORN!! ROCK ON KORN!!!

Great album

One of their best albums. The best tracks are definately 'Blind' , 'Clown' and 'Shoots & Ladders'.

seriously. there's nothing here that you didn't [or won't if u go looking, if yr 'young'] find w nirvanna, sepultura, ministry, oh Metallica or black sabbath. For that matter LedZep [et al to Robert Johnson]. already had some Korn and it was KornyEnough. I certainly have better ways to spend $16. Where are the realrockers? i.e. RageAgainstTheMachine :-) [just deleted some profanaties that would be censored. the sterile world. how we try] buy something older and cheaper kidz. or get out yr parent's [OMG] music. it's usually OK if not good, often egcelent.

Korn's cathartic alternative metal sound positioned the group among the most popular and provocative to emerge during the post-grunge era. Korn began their existence as the Bakersfield, California-based metal band LAPD, which included guitarists James "Munky" Shaffer and Brian "Head" Welch, bassist Reginald "Fieldy Snuts" Arvizu, and drummer David Silveria. After issuing an LP in 1993, the members of LAPD crossed paths with Jonathan Davis, a mortuary science student moonlighting as the lead vocalist...
