EDITORS’ NOTES

Los Angeles trio LANY has an ear for nostalgic, '80s synth-pop designed for summer sunsets, but their ALL-CAPS internet lingo (“ILYSB”) and quips about texting place them firmly in 2017. With disarming sincerity and youthful idealism, their debut album sounds like a day in the life of any emotional teenager, passing notes in science class (“It Was Love”) and chasing after an ex (“13”). Of course, in LANY’s world, it’s all under the golden glow of coastal California: “Dancing in the light of a canyon sun/Racing every wave going north on the 1.”
