iTunes Review

The epic structures, the increased voltage, the heavyweight grooves: Everything clicks on Led Zeppelin’s second album. By riding a single, violent chord to an explosive climax, “Whole Lotta Love” comes off like a grand finale—and it’s only the first cut. The band was no longer derivative of Howlin’ Wolf, and “Moby Dick” and “Heartbreaker” show them unlocking their own ferocious riffs, on drums as well as guitar. In the sonic voyages of “What Is and What Should Never Be” and “Ramble On”, you can already hear them setting sail for future adventures.
