iTunes Review

Following a charismatic debut, 26-year-old Madonna was determined to steal the spotlight with 1984’s Like a Virgin. Overseen by disco genius Nile Rodgers, the album is flawlessly played and produced. The button-pushing title track and “Material Girl” mix New Wave dance with R&B lust. The hooks on “Angel” are as sweet as hard candy and the rhythms of “Into the Groove” are tantalising. Still, it’s Madonna’s coy-but-impassioned vocals that make the album more than a fleeting dose of pop fluff.

Still Stunning

Chic member Nile Rodgers was not as well known then as the super producer to the stars he is now, but Madge puts in a great act herself. Growing up with this, the impact of her star had not yet risen the giddy and enduring heights that it has now, almost 3 decades later. Pop hits such as "Material Girl" and "Like a Virgin" were hugely popular, but listening to the cover of Rose Royce's "Love Don't Live Here Anymore" truly shows that this girrl had supreme talent all those years back. Still Great. A must to rediscover, no matter how 80's the cover shot reminds us.

Appreciating her music became even more difficult as the decade wore on, as discussing her lifestyle became more common. However, one of Madonna's greatest achievements is how she has manipulated the media and the public with her music, her videos, her publicity,...
