Album Review

While nothing more than a compilation of selected tracks from the various Aints releases, live and studio, for the American market, Shelf Life is a good place to start for the interested Kuepper neophyte, especially those who are more familiar with his gently tuneful side rather than his garage/punk past from the Saints. Hearing the man and his cohorts shred through a stunning version of "River Deep Mountain High," not to mention a remake of the old Saints hit "Erotic Neurotic," is always a good way to spend time, while equally fine selections like "Ill Wind" and "The Aints Go Pop-Camping" in their own way approach the Motorhead ethos of "everything louder than everything else" more than once.

The name would seem to indicate that the Aints were a Saints tribute band — or that they were driven more by negative than positive energy — but that isn't quite right. Nor is it completely wrong.
