Alexandra “Shungudzo” Govere is an artist that draws from multiple roots—born in the US, and raised in Zimbabwe, with French and Native ancestry. Her musical journey has been just as dynamic. A competitive gymnast and dancer as a child, it wasn’t until after she was enrolled at Stanford University that she formally embarked on a career. A compelling lyricist and vocalist, Shun’s exploration of social issues and global politics has produced songs such as the pop-rock anthem “Long Live the Billionaire” and “Toast to our Differences,” the latter an Afropop collab with UK producers Rudimental that celebrates human diversity. She contributed to the hit film soundtrack Fifty Shades Freed and has written songs for pop stars such as Little Mix.
