iTunes Review

Loveless simultaneously defines the shoegaze movement and proves how intoxicating the genre can be. Two painstaking years in the making, My Bloody Valentine’s second album is a washed-out masterpiece—shaped by blurry waves of guitar noise, droning synthesizers and the cooly detached, intertwined coo of Bilinda Butcher and Kevin Shields. Individual songs—like “When You Sleep” or “Only Shallow”—are haunting highlights, but the album reveals its true emotional potency when you absorb it from start to finish. Plug in the headphones, press play and let Loveless carry you away.

Truly Sublime

Been discovering this stunning band and thier sublime music for the first time in my life, only 20 years late. How has it taken me this long? Still sounds as original and fresh as any music release today, and I suspect there are not too many acts today that could do that to me in 20 years time, if I picked them up for the first time!
It's hard to pick a standout track, each song is a beutifully crafted weave of sound on sounds with a mixture of electro punk crashing (but not clashing) with some grand guitar and heavenly vocals. In many respects this type of noise should not work, it should offend the ears, the fact it does the opposite is testament to the artistry benhind it.
I now know why so many of my favourite artist claim MBV as a major influence or speak of them in the same breath as the Pixies,Nirvana and The Smashing Pumpkins.

what's not to love...

absolutely essential album for any contemporary music fan. lush melodies hidden behind silky veils of beautiful sonic noise. age has not wearied this album and the remastering has only served to enhance the experience. 20 years on and how many new bands would wish to sound this good and this relevant.

Like the Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth, and the Jesus and Mary Chain before them, My Bloody Valentine redefined what noise meant within the context of pop songwriting. Led by guitarist Kevin Shields, the group released several EPs in the mid-'80s before recording the era-defining Isn't Anything in 1988, a record that merged lilting, ethereal melodies of the Cocteau Twins with crushingly loud, shimmering distortion. Though My Bloody Valentine rejected rock & roll conventions, they didn't subscribe...
