iTunes Editors' Notes

Glasgow's Franz Ferdinand continues to twist its grooves towards the dancefloor, injecting Brit-pop melodies with the antsy angst of techno's twitchy beats. This is the white-boy disco inferno commandeered as a loose concept album about a night on the town and the morning after. "Send Him Away" shuffles with a sense that somewhere David Bowie is watching, his glam-rock sparkle slipping through the sudden slashes of guitars that cut through the machine-like keyboard blips and runs. "Twilight Omens" kicks in with a warbly vocal worthy of Ray Davies while the music lurches with a mechanical keyboard dictating the unyielding rhythm. Davies' ghost can be heard haunting "Bite Hard," another swinging shuffle that explodes in celebratory glee. But while the group serves the beat with dedication, "No You Girls" sounds like the perfect nightclub pick-up anthem. The band strips things down for "Katherine Kiss Me," the acoustic guitar lullaby that closes the album and tucks the night away.

Customer Reviews

I luv it more than my mum

Wow this is an excellent album its so retro and funkish it has a hell of a beat through the whole album. Great work franz

Ahh, another great album from franz ferdinand, and also, i feel special to be writing the 1st review for this album. Some different tunes from their last albums, but still has the same catchy tunes. i am a big fan of british bands and if you are too then this is the album for you. its a must bye for alternative lovers.

Sweet New Direction

this is a fantastic record from the glasvegas art rockers. it's completely different from all their other stuff, moving from rockier tempos to sonic disco hooks. opener ulysses is a perfect example of the new direction. brilliant stuff. and by the way, this was the feature on triple j, and every one of the features that have been in 2009 are brilliant (see fever ray and blitzen trapper).

Glasgow's art-damaged rock quartet Franz Ferdinand — named for the Austro-Hungarian Archduke whose murder sparked World War I — feature bassist Bob Hardy, guitarist Nick McCarthy, drummer Paul Thomson, and singer/guitarist Alex Kapranos. In late 2001, Kapranos and Hardy had begun working on music together when they met McCarthy, a classically trained pianist and double bass player who originally played drums for the group despite no prior experience as a drummer. The trio had been rehearsing...
